Dierkd., 49: 278) according to Blommers-Schlösser and Blanc, 1991, Faune de Madagascar, 75: 296. BMNH 1947.2.9.73 designated lectotype by Glaw and Vences, 1997 "1996", Salamandra, 32: 236. Type localities: "East Betsileo" and "Ankafana, Betsileo", Madagascar.

Distribution

Eastern, central, and northwestern Madagascar, 900-1500 m elevation.

In the Boophis goudotii group according to Blommers-Schlösser and Blanc, 1991, Faune de Madagascar, 75: 295-297. In the Boophis rhodoscelis group according to Blommers-Schlösser, 1979, Bijdr. Dierkd., 49: 275. In the Boophis microtympanum group of Glaw and Vences, 2006, Organisms Divers. Evol., 6: 236. Glaw and Vences, 2007, Field Guide Amph. Rept. Madagascar, Ed. 3: 152-153, provided an account and noted at least two unnamed similar species (which are now Boophis andrangolaoaka and Boophis piperatus). See statement of geographic range, habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 624. Andreone, Vences, Glaw, and Randrianirina, 2007, Tropical Zool., 20: 19-39, reported the species from the high plateau of central Madagascar.
