In the Boophis rappiodes group, according to the original publication. In the more exclusive Boophis mandraka group of Vences and Glaw, 2005, Afr. J. Herpetol., 54: 79, and Glaw and Vences, 2006, Organisms Divers. Evol., 6: 240. Glaw and Vences, 2007, Field Guide Amph. Rept. Madagascar, Ed. 3: 178-179, provided an account and noted an unnamed species from near Ranomafana, southeast-central Madagascar and another northeastern Madagascar. Randrianiaina, Strauss, Glos, and Vences, 2012, ZooKeys, 178: 59-124, reported on larval morphology.
