Neobatrachus pictus Peters, 1863, Monatsber. Preuss. Akad. Wiss. Berlin, 1863: 235. Syntypes: ZMB 4725-26 (see Cogger, Cameron, and Cogger, 1983, Zool. Cat. Aust., Amph. Rept., 1: 22, for discussion of confusion surrounding types). ZMB 4726 designated lectotype by Bauer, Günther, and Robeck, 1996, Mitt. Zool. Mus. Berlin, 72: 269. Type locality: "Buchsfelde [=Loos, 4.5 km W Gawler] bei Adelaide in Südaustralien", Australia.

Neobatrachus fictus — Krefft, 1865, Pap. Proc. R. Soc. Tasmania, 1865: 17. Incorrect subsequent spelling.

Distribution

Southeastern South Australia and adjacent southwestern Victoria, with one record in extreme southwestern New South Wales, Australia.

Comment

Roberts, 1978, Trans. R. Soc. S. Aust., 102: 97, rediagnosed this species, which has been considered a synonym of Heleioporus eyrei by Loveridge, 1935, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 78: 7. Tyler, 1978, Amph. S. Aust.: 71-73. See brief account by Tyler and Knight, 2009, Field Guide Frogs Aust.: 92-93.
