Leptodactylus gaigeae Cochran, 1938, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 51: 41. Holotype: USNM 96759, by original designation; subsequently transferred to MNRJ and not located according to Pombal and Haddad, 1999, Copeia, 1999: 1020. Type locality: "Bonito in the Serra da Bocaina, near the boundary between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo", Brazil.

Paratelmatobius pictiventris Lutz In Lutz and Carvalho, 1958, Mem. Oswaldo Cruz, Rio de Janeiro, 56: 240. Syntypes: 2 specimens, formerly in the USNM, now lost according to Pombal and Haddad, 1999, Copeia, 1999: 1020. Type locality: "na Serra da Bocaina, fronteiriça ao Itatiaia, do outro lado do vale do rio Paraíba" and in the same publication (p. 244) translated as "at third brook on the way from Bonito to Alambary", Serra da Bocaina, State of São Paulo, Brazil. Synonymy by Bokermann, 1966, Lista Anot. Local. Tipo Anf. Brasil.: 80; Lynch, 1971, Misc. Publ. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 53: 183 (who incorrectly considered this name a nomen nudum). Pombal and Haddad, 1999, Copeia, 1999: 1020, documented the availability of the name.

Serra da Bocaina, Serra do Mar range, above 1000 m elevation, southeastern Brazil.

Avulsos Zool., São Paulo, 37: 125-137. Zaher, Aguiar, and Pombal, 2005, Arq. Mus. Nac., Rio de Janeiro, 63: 321-328, reported the first collection since the type specimens, redescribed the species, and allocated the species to the Paratelmatobius lutzii group.
