Known onl from Icacos Swamp on the southwestern peninsula of Trinidad, West Indies.
In the Leptodactylus wagneri-Leptodactylus podicipinus complex according to the original publication. Murphy, 1997, Amph. Rept. Trinidad Tobago: 88-89, provided a brief account. Ponssa, Jowers, and de Sá, 2010, Zootaxa, 2646: 1-25, reported on morphological phylogenetics and suggested that Leptodactylus nesiotus is the sister taxon of Leptodactylus validus.
