In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) binotatus series, Eleutherodactylus lacteus group of Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 226. In the Ischnocnema lactea species series of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 27. Costa, Carvalho-e-Silva, and Carvalho-e-Silva, 2008, Check List, 4: 232-233, provided the record for São Paulo, Brazil. Targino and Carvalho-e-Silva, 2008, Rev. Brasil. Zool., 25: 716-723, redescribed the species from topotypes.
