Pleurodema guayapae Barrio, 1964, Physis, Buenos Aires, 24: 478. Holotype: CHINM 175, by original designation; now in MACN. Type locality: "Guayapa (Establecimiento Santa Rosa), próximo a Patquía, La Rioja, Argentina".

Distribution
Central Argentina (provinces of Córdoba, La Rioja, Catamarca, Santiago del Estero, San Luis, and San Juan); Department of Santa Cruz, Bolivia; likely into adjacent Paraguay.
Comment
This species and Pleurodema nebulosa are sibling species, which were compared morphometrically by Laurent, 1969, Acta Zool. Lilloana, 25: 81-96. See account by Cei, 1980, Monit. Zool. Ital., N.S., Monogr., 2: 380-382. Bolivian record by De la Riva and Gonzales-Álvarez, 1998, Alytes, 16: 68-76. De la Riva, Köhler, Lötters, and Reichle, 2000, Rev. Esp. Herpetol., 14: 44, noted that the 1000 km gap in range from central Argentina to Bolivia might indicate that more than one taxon is indicated. Baldo and Gutiérrez, 1997, Cuad. Herpetol., 11: 69-74, discussed the range and distinctiveness of this taxon. Brusquetti and Lavilla, 2006, Cuad. Herpetol., 20: 26, suggested that this species likely occurs in Paraguay. Ferraro and Casagranda, 2009, Zootaxa, 2024: 33-55, provided a detailed discussion of range in Argentina. Quiroga and Sanabria, 2009, Herpetol. Rev., 40: 234, provided a record for San Juan Province, Argentina, and detailed the range.
