Pleurodema bufonina Bell, 1843, Zool. Voyage Beagle, Part 5: 39. Syntypes: Not designated; BMNH (2 specimens) according to Boulenger, 1882, Cat. Batr. Sal. Coll. Brit. Mus., Ed. 2: 230. Type locality: "Port Desire [= Puerto Deseado], in Patagonia, and high up the river Santa Cruz", Argentina.
