Paludicola henselii Peters, 1872, Monatsber. Preuss. Akad. Wiss. Berlin, 1872: 223. Holotype: ZMB 6806, according to Boulenger, 1887, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., Ser. 5, 20: 296. Type locality: "aus Rio Grande", Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

Paludicola henseli — Boulenger, 1882, Cat. Batr. Sal. Coll. Brit. Mus., Ed. 2: 235. Incorrect subsequent spelling.

Distribution

Southern Brazil, Uruguay, and adjacent Argentina (Entre Ríos Province) and likely into Paraguay.

Comment

In the Physalaemus henselii group of Nascimento, Caramaschi, and Cruz, 2005, Arq. Mus. Nac., Rio de Janeiro, 63: 310. Tomatis, Baldo, Kolenc, and Borteiro, 2009, J. Herpetol., 43: 555-560, rejected this group as nonmonophyletic. See comment under Physalaemus fernandezae. Reviewed by Barrio, 1964, Acta Zool. Lilloana, 20: 285-305; and Cei, 1980, Monit. Zool. Ital., N.S., Monogr., 2: 405406. See brief nomenclatural account by Klappenbach and Langone, 1992, An. Mus. Nac. Hist. Nat. Montevideo, Ser. 2, 8: 196. See comment under Physalaemus kroyeri. Achaval and Olmos, 2003, Anf. Rept. Uruguay, ed. 2: 31, provided a brief account and photograph for the Uruguay population. Brusquetti and Lavilla, 2006, Cuad. Herpetol., 20: 25, noted that although this species probably occurs in Paraguay there are at present no voucher specimens to document it there.
