Type locality: "nördlichen Insel von Neu-Seeland in der Provinz Auckland und zwar in die Nähe des östlich von der Stadt Auckland gelegenen Hafens Coromandel an der Ostseite des Hauraki Golfes". Placed on the Official List of Specific Names in Zoology by Opinion 1071, Anonymous, 1977, Bull. Zool. Nomencl., 33: 167.

North and South Auckland, including Rangitoto Range, Coromandel Peninsula and Great Barrier Island; Gisborne (Huaiarau and Raukumara Ranges), New Zealand.
