In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) binotatus series, Eleutherodactylus lacteus group of Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 221. Pombal and Cruz, 1999, Bol. Mus. Nac., Rio de Janeiro, N.S., Zool., 404: 1-10, provided a taxonomic account of the species and noted that São Paulo records of this species applied to Eleutherodactylus nigroventris and Eleutherodactylus gehrti. In the Ischnocnema lactea species series of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 27.
