Kassina somalica Scortecci, 1932, Atti Soc. Ital. Sci. Nat. Mus. Civ. Stor. Nat. Milano, 71: 265. Holotype: MSNM, but possibly now lost, according to Conci, 1967, Atti Soc. Ital. Sci. Nat. Mus. Civ. Stor. Nat. Milano, 106: 94. Type locality: "Vilaggio Duca degli Abruzzi", southern Somalia.

English Names

Somali Running Frog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 68).

Distribution

Arid regions of Eritrea, eastern Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, and northern Tanzania.

Comment

Resurrected from the synonymy of Kassina senegalensis by Lanza, 1981, Monit. Zool. Ital., N.S., Suppl., 15: 175, where it had been placed by Schiøtz, 1975, Treefrogs E. Afr.: 56. Largen, 2001, Tropical Zool., 14: 353-354, discussed distribution and taxonomic problems surrounding application of this name.
