Comment

Dubois, 1981, Monit. Zool. Ital., N.S., Suppl., 15: 263, suggested the revival of Hylambates as a subgenus to contain this species. See comment under Kassina and Schiøtz, 1975, Treefrogs E. Afr.: 58. See accounts in Poynton and Broadley, 1987, Ann. Natal Mus., 28: 161-229; Lambiris, 1988, Lammergeyer, 39: 124-125; Channing, 2001, Amph. Cent. S. Afr.: 189-190; Channing and Howell, 2006, Amph. E. Afr.: 188-190, Bishop, 2004, in Minter et al. (eds.), Atlas Frogs S. Afr. Lesotho and Swaziland: 153-154, and Du Preez and Carruthers, 2009, Compl. Guide Frogs S. Afr.: 274-275. Mercurio, 2011, Amph. Malawi: 212, provided an account for Malawi. Pyron and Wiens, 2011, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 61: 543-583, in their study of Genbank sequences, suggested this taxon to be imbedded within Phlyctimantis.
