Mus. Nac., Rio de Janeiro, N.S., Zool., 526: 6, noted that the holotype is now renumbered MZUSP 0975. Type locality: "Serra Cantareira, S[ão]. Paulo", Brazil.

Resurrected from the synonymy of Brachycephalus ephippium by Heyer, Rand, Cruz, Peixoto, and Nelson, 1990, Arq. Zool., São Paulo, 31: 245, where it had been placed by Cochran, 1955 "1954", Bull.
