Rappia phantastica Boulenger, 1899, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., Ser. 7, 3: 274. Holotype: BMNH. Type locality: "Benito River, French Congo", Equatorial Guinea.

Hyperolius phantasticus — Noble, 1924, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 49: 252, 265, 327. Ahl, 1931, Das Tierreich, 55: 393.

Hyperolius nigropalmatus Ahl, 1931, Das Tierreich, 55: 378. Holotype: ZMB unnumbered, according to the original publication. Type locality: "Lolodorf, Kamerun". Synonymy by Perret, 1966, Zool. Jahrb., Jena, Abt. Syst., 93: 408. The description in Ahl, 1931, Mitt. Zool. Mus. Berlin, 17: 104, appeared a few weeks later according to unpublished notes by A. Loveridge (fide R. Laurent).

Hyperolius chabanaudi Ahl, 1931, Das Tierreich, 55: 407. Holotype: ZMB unnumbered, according to the original publication; ZMB 18228, according to Laurent, 1961, Rev. Zool. Bot. Afr., 64: 73. Type locality: "Beniló [= Benito], Französischer Kongo [=Gabon]". The description in Ahl, 1931, Mitt. Zool. Mus. Berlin, 17: 125, appeared a few weeks later according to unpublished notes by A. Loveridge (fide R. Laurent). Considered a likely synonym of Hyperolius phantasticus by R. Laurent in Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 215; synonymy confirmed by Lötters, Gossmann, Obame, and Böhme, 2001, Herpetofauna, Weinstadt, 23: 30.

Hyperolius boulengeri Laurent, 1943, Ann. Mus. R. Congo Belge, Tervuren, Zool., 4: 134. Holotype: MRAC 37104, by original designation. Type locality: "Flandria (Tshuapa)", Dem. Rep. Congo. Synonymy by Laurent, 1961, Rev. Zool. Bot. Afr., 64: 73.

Distribution

Forests of Gabon and southwestern Cameroon to central Dem. Rep. Congo and south through Gabon to southern Congo; presumably will be found in Equatorial Guinea.
