Type locality: "Udjidji (Udjidji, Tanganjikasee, Deutsch-Ost-Afrika)", Tanzania. Considered a subspecies of Hyperolius marmoratus by Laurent, 1952 "1951", Ann. Soc. R. Zool. Belg., 82: 389; Broadley, 1971, Puku, 6: 122. The description in Ahl, 1931, Mitt. Zool. Mus. Berlin, 17: 72, appeared a few weeks later according to unpublished notes by A. Loveridge (fide R. Laurent). Broadley, 2007, Afr. J. Herpetol., 56: 97-98, noted that Hyperolius marginatus has priority over Hyperolius argentovittis.

Central-eastern Africa from eastern Dem. Rep. Congo southeast to Malawi, western Mozambique, southeastern Tanzania, and Zimbabwe.
