W.C.H. Peters: 44 (given as 4806 by Tornier, 1896, in Möbius (ed.), Deutsch Ost-Afr., 3: 151). Type locality: "Macanga", north of Sena (according to Bauer, Günther, and Klipfel, 1995, in Bauer et al. (eds.), Herpetol. Contr. W.C.H. Peters: 44), Mozambique. Synonymy with Hyperolius marmoratus angolensis by Laurent, 1952 "1951", Ann. Soc. R. Zool. Belg., 82: 389. Considered a race of Hyperolius marmoratus by Poynton, 1964, Ann. Natal Mus., 17: 199.

Hyperolius argentovittis Ahl, 1931, Das Tierreich, 55: 345. Holotype: ZMB unnumbered, according to the original publication; not found by Laurent, 1961, Rev. Zool. Bot. Afr., 64: 65-96. Type locality: "Udjidji (Udjidji, Tanganjikasee, Deutsch-Ost-Afrika)", Tanzania. Considered a subspecies of Hyperolius marmoratus by Laurent, 1952 "1951", Ann. Soc. R. Zool. Belg., 82: 389; Broadley, 1971, Puku, 6: 122. The description in Ahl, 1931, Mitt. Zool. Mus. Berlin, 17: 72, appeared a few weeks later according to unpublished notes by A. Loveridge (fide R. Laurent). Broadley, 2007, Afr. J. Herpetol., 56: 97-98, noted that Hyperolius marginatus has priority over Hyperolius argentovittis.

Provisional synonymy (with Hyperolius argentovittis) by Laurent, 1943, Ann. Mus. R. Congo Belge, Tervuren, Zool., 4: 67. Considered a synonym of Hyperolius marmoratus argentovittis by Laurent, 1952 "1951", Ann. Soc. R. Zool. Belg., 82: 389. The description in Ahl, 1931, Mitt. Zool. Mus. Berlin, 17: 131, appeared a few weeks later according to unpublished notes by A. Loveridge (fide R. Laurent).

Hyperolius callichromus Ahl, 1931, Das Tierreich, 55: 372. Holotype: ZMB unnumbered, according to the original publication; MCZ 17630-31 (on exchange from ZMB according to Barbour and Loveridge, 1946, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 96: 127) are presumably paratypes not syntypes. Type locality: "Westliches Russisi-Ufer und Nordwest-Ufer des Tanganyika"; putative MCZ syntype data given as "W. Bank of Upper Russisi River, Belgian Congo" by Barbour and Loveridge, 1946, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 96: 127. Synonymy with Hyperolius argentovittis by Loveridge, 1936, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 79: 372. The description in Ahl, 1931, Mitt. Zool. Mus. Berlin, 17: 99, appeared a few weeks later according to unpublished notes by A. Loveridge (fide R. Laurent).

Distribution

Central-eastern Africa from eastern Dem. Rep. Congo southeast to Malawi, western Mozambique, southeastern Tanzania, and Zimbabwe.
