Removed from the synonymy of Hyperolius nasutus by Rödel and Ernst, 2003, Herpetozoa, 16: 27, where it had been placed by Channing, Moyer, and Burger, 2002, Afr. Zool., 37: 96. Amiet, 2005, Rev. Suisse Zool., 112: 271-310, discussed the Hyperolius nasutus group and excluded the former West African part of the range as assignable to other species, such as Hyperolius adspersus (Hyperolius lamottei of Schiøtz, 2006, Alytes, 24) and Hyperolius igbettensis. Schiøtz, 2006, Alytes, 24: 63, concurred with the resurrection of Hyperolius lamottei on the basis of call structure. In the Hyperolius nasutus group of Amiet, 2005, Rev. Suisse Zool., 112: 271-310.
