Elosia nasus meridionalis Mertens, 1927, Bl. Aquar. Terrarienkd., Stuttgart, 38: 288. Holotype: SMF 21759 according to Mertens, 1967, Senckenb. Biol., 48(A): 39. Type locality: "Wasserfall in 900 m höhe, 3 km nordwestlich von Sao Francisco de Paula, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasilien".

In the Hylodes nasus group according to Heyer, 1982, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 95: 377-385. Transferred to the Hylodes lateristrigatus group by Pombal, Feio, and Haddad, 2002, Herpetologica, 58: 462.
