Hylodes babax Heyer, 1982, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 95: 380. Holotype: MZUSP 57949, by original designation. Type locality: "Brasil: Minas Gerais; Parque Nacional do Caparaó, 1200 m, 20° 26′ S, 41° 47′ W".

English Names

Caparao Mountains Tree Toad (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 81).

Distribution

Caparaó mountains, of southwestern Espírito Santo and adjacent Minas Gerais, Brazil; also reported from the Parque Estadual da Serra do Brigadeiro and Floresta Estadual do Uamií in eastern Minas Gerais and in the Serra da Mantiqueira in Minas Gerais near the Espírito Santo border.

Comment

In the Hylodes lateristrigatus group of Heyer, 1982, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 95: 377-385. Pirani, Mângia, Santana, Assis, and Feio, 2010, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 5: 83-88, discussed the range, natural history, and biogeography. Pirani, Pezzuti, Motta, and Feio, 2011, Zootaxa, 2800: 64-68, reported on larval morphology. Santos, Silva, Fehlberg, Santos, Zaidan, and Garcia, 2012, Check List, 8: 313-316, reported this species from the eastern region of the Serra da Mantiqueira, Minas Gerais, Brazil, and commented on the range.
