Pithecopus coelestis Cope, 1874, Proc. Acad. Nat. Sci. Philadelphia, 26: 121. Holotype: ANSP 11384, according to Malnate, 1971, Proc. Acad. Nat. Sci. Philadelphia, 123: 350; incorrectly reported as lost by Duellman, 1974, Herpetologica, 30: 105-112 (D.C. Cannatella in Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 200). Type locality: "Moyabamba [= Moyobamba], [Departamento San Martín,] Peru".

Distribution

Very poorly known with isolated records in Peru and Colombia. Probably more widespread in the upper Amazon Basin than currently understood.
