Barbourula kalimantanensis Iskandar, 1978, Copeia, 1978: 565. Holotype: MZB Amph. 2330, by original designation. Type locality: "Nanga Sayan (0° 44′ S; 111° 40′ E), 33 km south of Nanga Pinoh, West Kalimantan [Borneo], Indonesia".

Iskandar, 1995, Raffles Bull. Zool., 43: 309-311, reported on a second specimen from the vicinity of the type locality and redescribed the species. Santoso, Shonleben, Sapari, and Sadikin, 2006, Herpetol. Bull., London, 98: 7-9, reported a specimen from central Kalimantan (Borneo), Indonesia.
