Comment

The phylogenetic position of Barbourula is enigmatic. Clarke, 1987, J. Nat. Hist., 21: 879-891, concluded that Barbourula is related to Bombina. Blackburn, Bickford, Diesmos, Iskandar, and Brown, 2010, PLoS One, 5 (8: e 12090) : 1-8, on the basis of molecular data found Barbourula to be the sister taxon of Bombina with a divergence time estimated to be in the Eocene.
