Syntypes: AL-MNRJ 297 (Tijuca), AL-MNRJ 449 (Sumaré), USNM 96317 (Sumaré), and USNM 96388 (Paineiras) according to Duellman, 1977, Das Tierreich, 95: 161; also according to Cochran, 1961, Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 220: 70, including USNM 96244-46 (Tijuca) and USNM 96318 (Sumaré). Type locality: "dans les montagnes, près de Rio [de Janeiro]"; restricted to "the Carioca mountain at Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro", Brazil, by Lutz and Lutz, 1939, An. Acad. Brasil. Cienc., 11: 225. Given as "Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil", "Sumaré, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil", and "Paneiras, on the slope of Corcovado, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil" by Cochran, 1961, Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 220: 70.

Coastal mountains in the state of Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo, Espíritu Santo, and Paraná, Brazil.
