Hyla spinifera Tyler, 1968, Zool. Verh., Leiden, 96: 167. Holotype: MCZ 54510, by original designation. Type locality: "at an altitude of approximately 5000 ft at Oruge, Eastern Mountains, [Papua] New Guinea".

English Names

Spiny Treefrog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 60).

Distribution

Known from several localities in the upper Purari River catchment, Eastern mountains, 1000-1500 m elevation, New Guinea.

Comment

In the Litoria becki group of Tyler and Davies, 1978, Aust. J. Zool., Suppl. Ser., 27 (63): 14. Richards, 2001, Mem. Queensland Mus., 46: 733-740, discussed that distribution of this species. Menzies, 2006, Frogs New Guinea & Solomon Is.: 139, provided a brief account and considered this species to be in his Litoria pratti group.
