Known from the type locality (Idenberg River) and the Wapoga River area in Papua Province, Indonesia, and east to West Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea.
Menzies, 2006, Frogs New Guinea & Solomon Is.: 161-162, provided a brief account (as Nyctimystes fluviatilis). Kraus, 2010, Herpetol. Rev., 41: 246-248, provided the first records for Papua New Guinea.
