Hyla bulmeri Tyler, 1968, Zool. Verh., Leiden, 96: 56. Holotype: SAMA R5625, by original designation. Type locality: "...at an altitude of approximately 7300 ft at Glkm, upper Aunjung Valley, Schrader Mountains, Eastern Mountains, [Madang Province, Papua] New Guinea".

Known only from two localities on opposite sides of the central ranges, Schrader Mountains to the north and upper Fly River catchment, 1500-2000 m elevation, Papua New Guinea.
In the Litoria bulmeri group of Tyler and Davies, 1978, Aust. J. Zool., Suppl. Ser., 27 (63): 17. Menzies, 2006, Frogs New Guinea & Solomon Is.: 135, provided a brief account and considered this species to be in his Litoria pratti group.
