Hyla amboinensis Horst, 1883, Notes Leyden Mus., 5: 239. Syntypes: RMNH 4418 (Amboina, 2 specimens), 4419 (Misool), according to Gassó Miracle, van den Hoek Ostende, and Arntzen, 2007, Zootaxa, 1482: 41. Type localities: "Amboina" and "Misool", Moluccas, Indonesia.

Hyla papuensis Werner, 1901, Zool. Anz., 24: 99. Holotype: ZMB 16497, according to Duellman, 1977, Das Tierreich, 95: 115. Type locality: "Deutsch-Neu-Guinea" (= northern part of Papua New Guinea). Synonymy by Tyler, 1968, Zool. Verh., Leiden, 96: 27.

Hyla kampeni Barbour, 1908, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 51: 324. Holotype: MCZ 2433, by original designation. Type locality: "Wahaai, Ceram [Island]", Indonesia. Synonymy by Van Kampen, 1923, Amph. Indo-Austral. Arch.: 29.

English Names

Horst's Treefrog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 59).

Distribution

Throughout the lowlands of New Guinea, at least as far east as Port Moresby, but relatively few records from the north coast; also Amboina, Seram, and Misool Islands in the Moluccas.

Tierkd., Dresden, 24: 209-216, provided a record from western Papua, Indonesia. Menzies, 2006, Frogs New Guinea & Solomon Is.: 103, provided a brief account for this species which he included in his Litoria amboinensis complex.
