Hyla berthae Barrio, 1962, Physis, Buenos Aires, 23: 137. Holotype: LIHUBA 1080, by original designation; now in MACN. Type locality: "Punta Lara, [Departamento] Buenos Aires, Argentina".

English Names

Dwarf Snouted Treefrog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 63).

Distribution

Northeastern Argentina, southern Paraguay, Uruguay, and southern Brazil.

See redescription by Barrio, 1964, Copeia, 1964: 583-585 (who considered it related to Scinax catharinae), as well as account by Cei, 1980, Monit. Zool. Ital., N.S., Monogr., 2: 491-492. See also comments (as Hyla berthae) regarding the paratypes by Klappenbach and Langone, 1992, An. Mus. Nac. Hist. Nat. Montevideo, Ser. 2, 8: 181. Achaval and Olmos, 2003, Anf. Rept. Uruguay, ed. 2: 44, provided a brief account and photograph for the Uruguay population. López, Blotto, and Cacicio, 1999, Cuad. Herpetol., 13:105-110, reported the species in Chaco province, Argentina. Waller and Beccaceci, 2000, Cuad. Herpetol., 14: 75, reported the species in Corrientes Province, Argentina. Cajade, Natale, and Alcalde, 2006, Herpetol. Rev., 37: 103, discussed the range and provided range extension, specifically with respect to Argentina. Brusquetti and Lavilla, 2006, Cuad. Herpetol., 20: 11, briefly discussed the range in Paraguay. Pereyra, Borteiro, Baldo, Kolenc, and Conte, 2012, Herpetol. J., 22: 133-137, compared the advertisement call of this species with Scinax aromothyella.
