Hyla macrotympanum Tanner, 1957, Great Basin Nat., 17: 52. Holotype: AMNH 62141 (formerly BYU 13752), by original designation. Type locality: "10 miles east of Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas", Mexico.

Pine Forest Stream Frog (Liner, 1994, Herpetol. Circ., 23: 26; Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 63; Liner and Casas-Andreu, 2008, Herpetol. Circ., 38: 21).

Distribution

Humid montane and pine-oak forest at elevations of 700-1700 m on the northern slopes of the Chiapan Highlands in Mexico and the Sierra de Cuchumatanes in Guatemala; also in the upper Grijalva Basin in Chiapas, Mexico, and Guatemala.

Removed from synonymy of Ptychohyla euthysanota by Campbell and Smith, 1992, Herpetologica, 48: 153-167, where it had been placed by Duellman, 1963, Univ. Kansas Publ. Mus. Nat. Hist., 15: 320.
