Most similar to Hyla echinata according to the original publication. See account by Duellman, 2001, Hylid Frogs Middle Am., Ed. 2: 890-892, who considered it a member of his Hyla miliaria group. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 276.
