Plectrohyla matudai Hartweg, 1941, Occas. Pap. Mus. Zool. Univ. Michigan, 437: 5. Holotype: UMMZ 88863, by original designation. Type locality: "at an elevation of 1800 meters in the cloud forest on Mount Ovando, District of Soconusco, Chiapas", Mexico.

Plectrohyla brachycephala Taylor, 1949, Am. Mus. Novit., 1437: 16. Holotype: AMNH 53761, by original designation. Type locality: "'on a tributary of the Río Ostuta, at the foot of the Sierra Madre, between Sierra Madre and Cerro Altravesado,' Oaxaca, Mexico". Synonymy by Bumzahem and Smith, 1954, Herpetologica, 10: 62.

English Names

Matuda's Spikethumb Frog (Liner, 1994, Herpetol. Circ., 23: 25; Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 62; Liner and Casas-Andreu, 2008, Herpetol. Circ., 38: 20).

Distribution

Widely distributed in cloud forest at elevations of 700-2300 m along the Pacific versant from extreme southeastern Oaxaca, Mexico, through south-central Guatemala to the Las Nubes range; also in pine-oak forest in the Grijalva Depression in western Guatemala and in cloud forest at an elevation of 1370 m on Cerro Azul in northwestern Honduras.
