Osteocephalus deridens Jungfer, Ron, Seipp, and Almendáriz, 2000, Amphibia-Reptilia, 21: 328. Holotype: EPN-H 6655, by original designation. Type locality: "Estación Biologica Jatun Sacha, (01° 04′ S; 77° 36′ W), a reserve about 8 km E Puerto Misahuallí, Provincia Napo, Ecuador, 450 m a.s.l."

Intermediate elevations (250-600 m) of the Río Napo drainage in the provinces of Napo, Francisco de Orellana, and Sucumbíos, Ecuador; presumably in adjacent Peru.
