Hyla varelae Carrizo, 1992, Cuad. Herpetol., 7: 20. Holotype: MACN 1010, by original designation. Type locality: "Chaco, camino Selva del Río de Oro, al almacén del descvío de la Ruta", Argentina.

English Names

Carrizo's Treefrog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 58).

Distribution

Region of the type locality (26° 50′ S, 58° 55′ W) in the Chaco of Argentina; likely more widespread, possibly into adjacent Paraguay and Bolivia (see comment).

Comment

De la Riva, Köhler, Lötters, and Reichle, 2000, Rev. Esp. Herpetol., 14: 58, and Köhler, 2000, Bonn. Zool. Monogr., 48: 69, consider this species possibly to occur in Bolivia. Unassigned to species group by Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 89. Brusquetti and Lavilla, 2006, Cuad. Herpetol., 20: 27, suggested that this species likely occurs in adjacent Paraguay.
