Hyla secedens Lutz, 1963, Copeia, 1963: 561. Holotype: MNRJ 3591, by original designation. Type locality: "Barro Branco, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, rising from the coastal lowlands towards the Serra da Estrela, near the Bay of Guanabara and on the way to Petropolis; . . . (app. 22° 23′ S, 43° 15′ W)", Brazil. Weber, Silva-Soares, and Salles, 2009, Check List, 5: 218-221, corrected the type locality to "22°37' S, 43°15' W" and discussed the cause of the original error.

Distribution

Known only from Barro Branco, municipality of Duque de Caxias, and the Reserva Ecológica de Guapiaçú, municipality of Cachoeiras de Macacu, state of Rio de Janeiro, southeastern Brazil.

In the Hypsiboas pulchellus group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 87-88. Weber, Silva-Soares, and Salles, 2009, Check List, 5: 218-221, provided photographs of specimens, discussed the type locality, provided the second record, and discussed the range and identification errors in the literature, including noting that previous records for this species from Espírito Santo are referrable to Hypsiboas pombali.
