Distribution

Wooded savannas from southern Dem. Rep. Congo and northwestern Zambia to central Angola.

Comment

Considered a subspecies of Leptopelis viridis by Laurent, 1973, Ann. Mus. R. Afr. Cent., Tervuren, Ser. Octavo, Sci. Zool., 202: 11, but Schiøtz, 1975, Treefrogs E. Afr.: 25, and Perret, 1976, Arq. Mus. Bocage, Ser. 2, 6: 22, considered these forms to be distinct species. Perret regarded the paratypes of Leptopelis cynnamomeus (from Guinea-Bissau) to be Leptopelis viridis. A. Channing in Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 229, regarded the taxon as badly in need of revision. Southern African material treated as ?cinnamomeus by Schiøtz is composed of several cryptic species according to J.C. Poynton in Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 229). Poynton and Broadley, 1987, Ann. Natal Mus., 28: 177-178, provided a short account and noted that this name has been incorrectly applied to populations assignable to Leptopelis parbocagii and Leptopelis mossambicus.
