Distribution

Cloud forests at elevations of 1200-2210 m on the eastern slopes of the Andes from central Peru to the Yungas de La Paz, Bolivia.

In the Hyla pulchella group according to Duellman, De la Riva, and Wild, 1997, Sci. Pap. Nat. Hist. Mus. Univ. Kansas, 3: 1-41, who provided an account (in the sense of including Hyla callipleura as a synonym). In the Hyla pulchella group of Faivovich, Garcia, Ananias, Lanari, Basso, and Wheeler, 2004, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 32: 938-950. De la Riva, Köhler, Lötters, and Reichle, 2000, Rev. Esp. Herpetol., 14: 31, suggested that Hyla balzani is a composite and that Hyla callipleura possibly should be resurrected. Köhler, 2000, Bonn. Zool. Monogr., 48: 99, made the resurrection of Hyla callipleura. In the Hypsiboas pulchellus group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 87-88.
