Type locality: "Buénos-Ayres", Argentina. Given as "montagnes séparant Chuquisaca du Rio Grandé [sic] près de Tocapaya, Bolivie" by Lescure, Bour, Ineich, Ohler, and Ortiz, 2002, C. R. Palevol, Paris, 1: 531. Junior primary homonym of Rana zebra Shaw, 1802.

Distribution

Eastern slopes of Andes in southern Bolivia (Departments of Cochabamba, Chuquisaca, Potosí, and Tarija) at elevations of 2000-3416 m.

Comment

In the Hyla pulchella group according to Duellman, De la Riva, and Wild, 1997, Sci. Pap. Nat. Hist. Mus. Univ. Kansas, 3: 1-41, who provided an account. Suggested to likely be in the Hyla pulchella group by Faivovich, Garcia, Ananias, Lanari, Basso, and Wheeler, 2004, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 32: 938-950. Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 88, included this species in their Hypsiboas pulchellus group.
