Comment

In the Hypsiboas faber group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 87. It is highly likely that the populations along the Caribbean lowlands are specifically distinct (W.E. Duellman in Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 123). See account by Rivero, 1961, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 126: 99. Hoogmoed and Gruber, 1983, Spixiana, München, Suppl., 9: 365, suggested that specimens from north of the Amazon River were likely referrable to Hyla granosa. Lescure and Marty, 2000, Collect. Patrimoines Nat., Paris, 45: 305, noted that this species has not yet been taken in French Guiana, but is expected there. Izecksohn and Carvalho-e-Silva, 2001, Anf. Municipio Rio de Janeiro: 44, provided a brief account and photo. Various authors have treated Hyla lateralis Raddi, ( Raddi, 1823, Mem. Mat. Fis. Soc. Ital. Sci. Modena, 19: 67. "Holotype: MZUF. Type locality: "contorni de Rio-janeiro", Brazil. Given as Vicinity of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, by Bokermann, 1965, Neotropica, 11: 10), as a junior primary homonym of Hyla lateralis Daudin (such as Bokermann, 1965, Neotropica, 11: 10, who removed it from the synonymy of Hyla pulchella where it had been placed by Steindachner, 1864, Verh. Zool. Bot. Ges. Wien, 14: 241). Raddi makes it clear in text that he regarded the name Hyla lateralis to be that of Daudin and had no intention of coining a new name, even though he likely was referring to specimens of another species—DRF.
