Considered by P. Starrett (pers. comm. to Jay Savage in Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 80) to be a hylid, but considered by La Marca, 1997, in La Marca (ed.), Vert. Actual. Fosil. Venezuela: 114, to be a member of Hyalinobatrachium (Centrolenidae). Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 85, resolved the issue and placed this species in the Hyloscirtus bogotensis group.
