Hyla plicata Brocchi, 1877, Bull. Soc. Philomath., Paris, Ser. 7, 1: 126. Holotype: MNHNP 6317 according to Kellogg, 1932, Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 160: 173; Guibé, 1950 "1948", Cat. Types Amph. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat.: 23. Type locality: "Mexique".

Hyla lafrentzi Mertens and Wolterstorff, 1929, Zool. Anz., 84: 235. Holotype: MM 49/27 , lost; SMF 30997 designated neotype by Jameson, Mackey, and Richmond, 1966, Proc. California Acad. Sci., Ser. 4, 33: 596. Type locality: "Desierto de los Leones, Bergwald in 3000 m Höhe, in der Nähe von Mexiko". Neotype from same locality as holotype. Synonymy by Duellman, 1968, Herpetologica, 24: 201.

Distribution

High elevations in pine-fir forest in the Sierra Madre Oriental and the Cordillera Volcanica along the southern edge of the Mexican Plateau (Michoacan, Morelos, Mexico, D.F., Tlaxcala, Puebla, Veracruz, and Hidalgo).

Korky and Webb, 1991, Bull. New Jersey Acad. Sci., 36: 7-12, compared the larval morphology of Hyla eximia, Hyla euphorbiacea, and Hyla plicata.
