Comment

Removed from the synonymy of Leptopelis rufus by Mertens, 1940, Senckenb. Biol., 22: 130, where it had been placed by Noble, 1924, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 49: 242. Leptopelis anchietae nordequatorialis Perret, 1966, is now considered a distinct species, as is Leptopelis oryi Inger, 1968. See Amiet and Schiøtz, 1974, Ann. Fac. Sci. Cameroun, 17: 148-149; Schiøtz, 1975, Treefrogs E. Afr.: 11-13; and Perret, 1976, Arq. Mus. Bocage, Ser. 2, 6: 22-23. R. Laurent in Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 227 suggested that both of these taxa are probably subspecies of Leptopelis anchietae. See comment under Leptopelis oryi. Channing, 2001, Amph. Cent. S. Afr.: 196-197, provided an account.
