Scotobleps gabonicus Boulenger, 1900, Proc. Zool. Soc. London, 1900: 439. Syntypes: BMNH (3 specimens), by original designation. Type locality: "Benito River", elsewhere in the original publication noted to be "Benito River, north of the Gaboon River between 20 and 30 miles inland from the coast, Gaboon", Equatorial Guinea.

Astylosternus oxyrhynchus Nieden, 1908, Mitt. Zool. Mus. Berlin, 3: 489-518 (also described as new [as Astylosternus oxyrchynchus] by <. <3516, Nieden, 1908, Zool. Anz., 32: 660). Holotype: ZMB, according to XXX. Type locality: "Lolodorf, Kamerun". Synonymy by Loveridge, 1936, Field Mus. Nat. Hist. Publ., Zool. Ser., 22: 86; Perret, 1966, Zool. Jahrb., Jena, Abt. Syst., 93: 380; without discussion.

Scotobleps camerunensis Ahl, 1927 "1925", Sitzungsber. Ges. Naturforsch. Freunde Berlin, 1925: 46. Syntypes: ZMB (2 specimens), unnumbered in the original publication. Type locality: "Kamerun (Bipindi)". Tentative synonymy by Parker, 1936, Proc. Zool. Soc. London, 1936: 140-141. Deckert, 1938, Sitzungsber. Ges. Naturforsch. Freunde Berlin, 1938: 149, recognized Scotobleps camerunensis without comment on Parker's earlier action. Synonymy by Perret, 1966, Zool. Jahrb., Jena, Abt. Syst., 93: 380; without discussion.

Distribution

Eastern Nigeria to Mayombe Hills (western Dem. Rep. Congo), through western and southwestern Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, and western Gabon; presumably in western Rep. Congo.

Comment

Frétey and Blanc, 2001, Bull. Soc. Zool. France, 126: 382, reported this species from Gabon. Lasso, Rial, Castroviejo, and De la Riva, 2002, Graellsia, 58: 21-34, provided notes on ecological distribution in Equatorial Guinea. Schiĝtz, 1963, Vidensk. Medd. Dansk Naturhist. Foren., 125: 48, provided records for Nigeria.
