Hyla rubicundula Reinhardt and Lütken, 1862 "1861", Vidensk. Medd. Dansk Naturhist. Foren., Ser. 2, 3: 197. Syntypes: ZMUC (2 specimens) by original designation; NHMW 16511 (according to Häupl and Tiedemann, 1978, Kat. Wiss. Samml. Naturhist. Mus. Wien, 2: 19, and Häupl, Tiedemann, and Grillitsch, 1994, Kat. Wiss. Samml. Naturhist. Mus. Wien, 9: 24), ZMUC 1440-41. ZMUC 1441 is considered by museum records to be holotype (personal commun., H. Kristensen, 24 Nov. 2010), but likely this is one of the two syntypes, the other having been exchanged to NHMW (DRF). Type locality: "Lagoa Santa", Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Syntypes: Not stated; according to museum records AL-MNRJ 335, and according to Cochran, 1961, Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 220: 53, USNM 96861, and 96863 (Campo de Avaiçao); USNM 96957-62 (Belo Horizonte). USNM 96962 designated lectotype by Napoli and Caramaschi, 1999, J. Herpetol., 33: 485, who noted that the Campo de Avaiçao likely represented specimens of Hyla sanborni. Type locality: not stated; Campo de Avaiçao and Belo Horizonte, Brazil, by museum records. Restricted to "Belo Horizonte (approximately 19° 55′ S, 43° 56′ W), State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, 858 m" by lectotype designation. Synonymy by Bokermann, 1968, Rev. Brasil. Biol., 28: 328, and with considerable discussion by Napoli and Caramaschi, 1999, J. Herpetol., 33: 484-486; and Napoli and Caramaschi, 2000, Alytes, 17: 165-189.

Distribution
Northeastern Brazil from Piauí and Ceará south through southern Pará, Tocantins, Bahia, Goiás, Mato Grosso, and Mato Grosso do Sul to central Minas Gerais and São Paulo, Brazil; Departamento de Santa Cruz, Bolivia; expected in east-central Paraguay.

Herpetol., 20: 24, briefly discussed that records from Paraguay are based on misidentified Dendropsophus jimi and Dendropsophus elianeae.
