Known only from lowlands in the region of the type locality (Município de Seropédica, 22° 44′ S, 43° 42′ W, Rio de Janeiro) northeast to the vicinity of the town of Mimoso do Sul, southern Espíritu Santo, Brazil.
In the Hyla microcephala group, close to Hyla meridiana, according to the original publication. Izecksohn and Carvalho-e-Silva, 2001, Anf. Municipio Rio de Janeiro: 52, provided a brief account and photo. In the Dendropsophus microcephalus group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 91-92. Silva, Carvalho-e-Silva, and Carvalho-e-Silva, 2008, Check List, 4: 15-17, provided a distribution map and the record for the state of Espíritu Santo, Brazil.
