In the Dendropsophus labialis group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 91. Guarnizo, Amézquita, and Bermingham, 2009, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 50: 84-92, reported on molecular phylogeography within eastern Colombia, in what subsequently was named Dendropsophus luddeckei. Guarnizo, Escallón, Cannatella, and Amézquita, 2012, Herpetologica, 68: 523-540, revised and redelimited the species.
