Hyla giesleri Mertens, 1950, Wochenschr. Aquar. Terrarienkd., Braunschweig, 44: 185. Holotype: SMF 41217, by original designation. Type locality: "Barro Branco, Colonia de Imbarié, Municipio Duqué de Caxias, unwiet der Strasse von Rio nach Petropolis", Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

See Heyer, 1980, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 93: 655, who removed this from the synonymy of Hyla microps, where it had been placed by Mertens, 1967, Senckenb. Biol., 48(A): 41, and Lutz, 1973, Brazil. Spec. Hyla: 95. Hartmann and Hartmann, 2002, Herpetol. Rev., 33: 220-221, provided the record for São Paulo, Brazil, and commented on the distribution. In the Dendropsophus parviceps group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 93. Fonseca, Gonçalves, and Nascimento, 2011, Herpetol. Notes, 4: 143-144, provided records for the Serra do Espinhaço in Minas Gerais and discussed the species range.
