Leptodactylodon ornatus Amiet, 1971 "1970", Ann. Fac. Sci. Cameroun, 5: 59. Holotype: MHNG 2031.10 according to according to J.-L. Amiet in Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 23, and Schätti, Perret, and Mariaux, 2002, Cat. Comm. Types Amph. Rept. Mus. Hist. Nat. Geneve, Vers. 4.0 (Jan. 2002): 13. Type locality: "Mt Nlonako, près [ESE] de Nkongsamba, récolté entre 800 et 1.000 m d'altitude", Cameroon.

Leptodactylus ornatus permaculatus Amiet, 1971, Ann. Fac. Sci. Cameroun, 7-8: 142. Holotype: MHNG 2031.3 (formerly JLA 71.462) according to Schätti, Perret, and Mariaux, 2002, Cat. Comm. Types Amph. Rept. Mus. Hist. Nat. Geneve, Vers. 4.0 (Jan. 2002): 13. Type locality: "Fotabong, 1.000-1.100 m", Cameroon.

Hilly country near the southern and western slopes of the Bamileke Plateau and Mont Manengouba, Cameroon.
