Hyla gouveai Peixoto and Cruz, 1992, Mem. Oswaldo Cruz, Rio de Janeiro, 87: 197-200. Holotype: ZUEC 6902, by original designation. Type locality: "Brejo da Lapa, Itatiaia, Estado do Rio de Janeiro", Brazil. The type locality is at 2100 m elevation according to Peixoto and Gomes, 2007, Rev. Brasil. Zool., 24: 723.

Bokermannohyla gouveai — Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 83.

Boana gouveai — Wiens, Fetzner, Parkinson, and Reeder, 2005, Syst. Biol., 54: 743. by implication.

English Names

Itatiaia Treefrog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 55).

Distribution

Known only from the type locality in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Comment

In the Hyla circumdata group according to the original publication. In the Bokermannohyla circumdata group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 82-83. Costa, Lourenço, Almeida-Santos, and Van Sluys, 2010, Zootaxa, 2418: 61-64, reported on tadpole morphology and compared it to near relatives.
