Hyla claresignata Lutz and Lutz, 1939, An. Acad. Brasil. Cienc., 11: 67. Holotype: Not stated; AL-MNRJ 1971 according to Duellman, 1977, Das Tierreich, 95: 47. Type locality: "Fazendo of Messrs Guinle, in Theresopolis, State of Rio de Janeiro", Brazil.

Serra do Mar in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Paraná, southeastern Brazil.
