Stefania scalae Rivero, 1970, Bol. Soc. Venezol. Cienc. Nat., 28: 456. Holotype: MCZ 64373, by original designation. Type locality: "the region of La Escalera, road between El Dorado and Sta. Elena de Uairén, around 1,200 m., Edo. Bolívar, Venezuela".

Distribution

Upland streams in the La Escalera region, Bolívar, Venezuela; possibly into adjacent Guyana and Brazil.

Removed from the synonymy of Stefania evansi by Señaris, Ayarzagüena, and Gorzula, 1997 "1996", Publ. Asoc. Amigos Doñana, 7: 37, where it had been placed by Duellman and Hoogmoed, 1984, Misc. Publ. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 75: 9. See comments by Gorzula and Señaris, 1999 "1998", Scient. Guaianae, 8: 48. MacCulloch and Lathrop, 2002, Herpetologica, 58:342, discussed the species. MacCulloch and Lathrop, 2009, R. Ontario Mus. Contrib. Sci., 4: 13, commented on specimens from Mount Ayanganna, Guyana.
